Ultrabook and Win8 Will Drive Notebook Sales

According to the "Electronic Times" report, Simon Lin, chairman of Taiwan's notebook foundry firm Wistron, said that the release of the Intel Ultrabook concept product and Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system will be the driving force for laptop sales in 2012.

Lin said that Ultrabook shipments will account for 10-20 percent of Wistron’s total product shipments in 2012.

As the current economic situation in Europe and the United States continues to be sluggish, Wistron’s notebook shipment target in 2011 remains unchanged at 30 million units. However, Lin Xianming also said that the company's shipments will continue to increase in single digits in the third quarter of 2011.

At the same time, Wistron’s LCD TV business is in trouble. Its business target has decreased from selling 1 million units to 850,000 units, and mobile phones have also been reduced from 100 million to 1.2 million units to 900,000 units.

Wistron reported total revenue of NT$ 4.5 billion (US$ 15477 million) in its first half of 2011, a substantial decrease of 20.44% from the same period last year.
