Recently, scientists have brought a device that combines wearable and augmented reality technology. It is the Blade 3000 smart sunglasses. It is designed to provide users with a head-up display (HUD)-like experience to replace smart phone applications (somewhat similar to smart watches) in many situations. Vuzix achieves this through the patented "guided optics" and Cobra II reality engine, which can overlay a layer of data in your real world, a bit like Microsoft's HoloLens platform.
The difference is that the Blade 3000 integrates the technology into a pair of glasses that are particularly suitable for everyday wear (rather than a heavy head-mounted device).
The Blade 3000 also supports pairing with smartphones via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, which can then be used for message push, GPS navigation (both in head-up display / HUD format).
Vuzix said that people wearing the Blade 3000 don't have to pull out their phones from their pockets, because the glasses are more than just a "second screen."
The Blade 3000 also integrates a high-definition camera, motion tracker, and a trackpad. Although it runs on the Android operating system, it is compatible with Android and iOS phones.
