On June 26, the Ministry of Economics and Energy of Taiwan said that the Executive Yuan has approved the measures to set up LED street lighting for the whole station. In the three years from this year, it has invested about 2.8 billion Taiwan dollars and replaced 326,000 mercury street lamps with LED street lamps. It is expected to drive NT$4.5 billion in output value.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs estimates that after the completion of 326,000 LED street lights, it will save 143 million kWh of electricity for street lamps and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 87,500 metric tons per year, equivalent to the carbon adsorption capacity of 255 Da'an Forest Parks.
It is reported that there are 1,572,700 street lamps in the whole station, and after replacing 326,000 LED street lamps, the proportion is less than 20%. The Taiwan Environmental Protection Agency advocates that Taiwanese power stations should subsidize all LED street lights. The Energy Bureau said that with the advancement of LED lighting technology, prices will drop sharply, and local governments will be able to replace LED street lights by saving electricity bills without government subsidies.
The Energy Bureau has drawn up the "All-Set LED Street Lights" program, which covers three sub-meters. The first plan will be subsidized by Taipower to NT$588 million, and Keelung City, Hsinchu City and Chiayi City will be selected to replace 53,000 mercury street lamps. It is scheduled to be implemented this year and completed in 2013. The other two plans are aimed at the remote areas of the island, 5 cities and 11 counties and cities, respectively, and are expected to replace 23,000 baht and 250,000 baht respectively. The tender will be completed by the end of this year and will be completed in the middle of next year.
It is reported that the "All-Set LED Street Lights" plan must be handled in an energy-saving performance guarantee mode, that is, after each street lamp is set at a cost deduction subsidy, the local government will pay the "savings" after the replacement of the LED street lamps. Vendors will not increase the burden of local government budgets. After the replacement, the LED street lights have been guaranteed for 5 years, and the local government can also save maintenance costs.
