Denso and ImaginaTIon Technologies of the UK will collaborate on a CPU core focused on the era of autonomous driving. The two sides held a press conference in Tokyo on November 14, 2016.

Sugimoto Hideki (the second in charge of the development of the electronic foundation) of Denso, who attended the conference, pointed out that when it comes to the in-vehicle processor in the era of autonomous driving, the CPU that controls the entire car instead of the driver is often concerned. However, after receiving a command from the CPU that performs overall control, the CPU of each ECU that executes individual functions (control of the engine and brakes, etc.) must also be changed.
Processors in the ADAS·automated era must also evolve. Electric slide
The reason is that although many ECUs are equipped with a processor IC represented by an MCU, and the processor IC is also controlling, basically it is only necessary to respond to the driver's operation, so it can be processed once in a fraction of a second. . That is to say, even if the processor IC serial processing is completely available.
Previously, it was only necessary to cooperate with people's operations, and serial processing was also available (upper). In the era of ADAS·automatic driving, it was necessary to cooperate with the CPU for overall control, so it required a response speed of microseconds and required parallel processing (bottom). For an autonomous vehicle that is controlled by the overall control CPU, the driver must respond immediately after receiving the command from the overall control CPU, which requires a microsecond response speed. To achieve this, serial processing is too late and must be handled in parallel. For example, if the data exchange with the overall control CPU, the processing of the sensor responsible for the ECU, the arithmetic processing, and the motor control that the ECU is responsible for are not performed at the same time, it is too late.
