Usually, when we do the motor test, we often use the test equipment to obtain the curve chart of the motor for analysis. However, there are different types of curve charts, which are applicable to different occasions.
According to different motor test items, different test result charts are generally obtained. These charts can be easily divided into three types according to the motor parameter variables involved: "one-dimensional" / "two-dimensional" / "three-dimensional" map.
"One-dimensional" data display graph in real timeThe more common use in motor testing is the real-time display of data plots. The figure shows the amount of a certain parameter of the motor (commonly the speed, torque or current), and the relationship with the time axis, which represents the change of the motor parameters with time. In the past, it was mainly used for monitoring and data recording of the motor during the test.
Motor speed, torque and time curve
However, as the requirements for motor testing are getting higher and higher, the requirements for real-time testing are getting higher and higher. Past tests only focused on the relationship between single parameters and time, while current users tend to pay more attention to the relationship or change between multiple motor parameters at the same time. The control response such as speed and torque, fluctuations, etc. are all extended applications of the real-time display curve of motor data. The high sampling rate and high real-time synchronization requirements of the motor test equipment are proposed.

"Two-dimensional" motor characteristic curveThe motor characteristic curve is the most classic motor performance analysis tool. It is a function curve chart drawn by the relationship between any two motor parameter variables. The "five-axis diagram" of a typical motor refers to the characteristic curve of the motor. The engineer can analyze the performance of the motor through the five function curves between the motor speed and the torque, current, power, efficiency, and slip.

"Three-dimensional" motor characteristic mapMost of the past motors are asynchronous or DC motors, and the difference in performance depends mainly on the size of the load, ie the amount of load torque. However, with the development of technology, the operating conditions such as variable frequency motors and brushless motors, which are very commonly used nowadays, depend not only on the magnitude of the load torque but also on the speed of their own control. Therefore, for motors that support active control, such as electric vehicle motors, servo motors, and variable frequency fans, when analyzing their performance, it is necessary to consider the load and speed control at the same time, and often need to draw a three-dimensional coordinate map. For example, the efficiency test, the efficiency map is drawn, the ternary function relationship between the motor speed, torque and efficiency is realized, and the high-efficiency zone distribution of the motor under different speed control is loaded. The same type of chart also has a graph of changes between the motor torque constant and the motor temperature and output current.
