Recently, the Qingdao Science and Technology Bureau officially approved the Laoshan District People’s Government to build Qingdao’s virtual reality technology innovation center according to the “13th Five-Year Plan†Qingdao Science and Technology Innovation Plan.
Since the signing of the strategic cooperation agreement between Qingdao City and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2015, Qingdao's high-end R&D institutions and enterprises in the virtual reality industry have accelerated their concentration. As the only administrative district in the country, Laoshan District was elected as the first member of the China Virtual Reality Industry Alliance. It was approved as the nation’s first virtual reality high-tech industrialization base and gathered in Qingdao, a key national laboratory for virtual reality technology and systems. Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality More than 10 virtual reality R&D institutions, including the National Engineering Laboratory for Technology and Application, and the Beihang Qingdao Research Institute, have introduced and cultivated more than 30 virtual reality companies, which have formed significant influence in the industry and have a certain amount of discourse power. Through the construction of an innovation center, Qingdao will further promote industrial planning, technological innovation, application demonstration, training of talented people, and transformation of achievements, and will have a greater role in aggregating and leading the R&D and industrial development of the virtual reality field.
In the next step, the Qingdao Science and Technology Bureau will, in accordance with the transformation of old and new kinetic energy and the deployment of “one industry and one policy,†vigorously support the construction of the Qingdao Virtual Reality Technology Innovation Center, and add scientific research plans, project arrangements, policy pilots, talent introduction, and platform construction. Great support will be given to strengthen the daily guidance and follow-up services for the construction of science and technology innovation centers.
