Microchip announced that its ZigBee RF4CE-compliant platform has been certified to enable a new generation of RF remote controls and consumer electronics products. The platform includes Microchip's nanoWatt XLP ultra-low-power PIC® microcontroller, MRF24J40 IEEE 802.15.4 transceiver and modules that have been certified by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the ZigBee RF4CE certification protocol stack that occupies the smallest storage space in the industry.

The consumer electronics industry is rapidly shifting from infrared remote controls that require line-of-sight operation and have limited range to more powerful and versatile radio frequency (RF) wireless technologies. The ZigBee RF4CE protocol provides an industry standard for this transition, ensuring interoperability between OEM or aftermarket remote controls and consumer electronics products, while facilitating the communication between audio / video entertainment devices and improving the user experience.

Availability
