Immersion, the leading developer and licensee of haptic feedback technology, today announced TouchSense Force, a combination of software and hardware, that hopes to enhance the tactile feedback of game controllers and new peripherals for a better experience VR, already supported devices are Nintendo Switch Host JoyCons, and Oculus Touch.
On the software side, Force provides a Unreal Engine plug-in that includes a visual editor that allows developers to pinpoint the content given by the feedback controller. There is also an API that allows developers to use their own custom engine. Basically, the company gives developer tools for Oculus Touch games to create more accurate haptic feedback that reflects specific situations.
On the hardware side, Immersion provides a reference design that allows OEMs to integrate Force into their devices, with action triggers, push-pull and trigger, and perhaps a more realistic sense of grabbing objects in VR. Maybe we can see future SteamVR controllers or other VR devices implementing this technology. The company will demonstrate its technology at GDC next week.
