Heterogeneous virtualization solutions for edge access networks

Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G are two hot spots in the recent communications industry. IoT solves tens of billions of Internet of Things, and 5G builds a faster mobile communications network. What is the most important in the era of IoT and 5G? Network! Data traffic is growing at an unprecedented rate. However, business revenue related to traffic services does not grow at the same rate. Instead, related operating costs are rising. This is the challenge faced by telecom operators now and in the future. It is also an issue that they urgently need to solve. For this reason, many companies have proposed solutions, and Enea (Sweden) is one of the best.

With the rapid growth of end-users' demand for big data services such as video, the network pressure of operators is increasing day by day. There are two ways to solve this problem: one is to lay more fibers, but it will increase the operating costs; the second is to realize the network infrastructure. The virtualization can effectively alleviate the numerous challenges faced by operators in the traditional environment. Operators must expand their service offerings in new ways while reducing infrastructure costs.

Network Function Virtualization (NFV) implements network functions in the form of virtual machines (VMs) on a cloud-based universal infrastructure rather than as dedicated physical hardware. With NFV technology, operators can develop and launch business applications more quickly and flexibly, which greatly reduces the cost. In the past, the hardware needed was not only costly but also had a long cycle. Network function virtualization is disrupting operators' traditional operations and service delivery models. Enea provides a highly scalable, high-performance, secure, and reliable technology platform for enterprise NFV infrastructure.

Distribution and concentration

With the addition of the Internet of Things, 5G faces greater network traffic pressure. Therefore, 5G needs to place a large number of delay-sensitive services on the network edge processing (MEC). Due to its distributed and diversity, the edge network poses a great challenge to the hardware heterogeneity and the architecture of the software system. Taking the current hot vCPE scenario as an example, there are both distributed and centralized deployments, but Enea believes that the future is based on a hybrid service deployment model.

Enea's NFV solution consists of Core and Access. The Core is a virtualization platform deployed in the central office and provides the full functionality of OpenStack. Access is deployed on the customer's device to provide lightweight virtualization and corresponding Management software. The two are connected by the exclusive Edge Link technology to provide an integrated solution.

Enea NFV Access is a recently launched lightweight customization client deployed at the edge of the network virtualization platform, with the optimized minimum image, high-throughput softswitch, users can choose to run virtual network functions on KVM and Docker ( VNFs). It also supports ARM and x86 white box devices, enabling operators and service providers to meet a wider range of price and performance space while still using the same platform and management interface.

Platform heterogeneity

In the field of servers Intel outshines but does not mean absolute monopoly. As the demand for market differentiation increases, more and more manufacturers are beginning to show interest in ARM processors. ARM is characterized by a high degree of customization and the resulting cost advantages. With the sinking of network functions, more and more service processing is decentralized to the edge access side, and the balance between power consumption and performance needs to be found. Enea's NFV platform supports both Intel and ARM processors and provides a unified software solution on heterogeneous platforms.

On May 2 of this year, China Mobile, Enea, Cavium, and ARM signed an agreement to open an NFV test laboratory. The agreement will use the commercial Enea NFV Core platform and ARM-based Cavium ThunderX processor to solve key performance issues in the edge access scenario.

Network intelligence

Network intelligence and IP traffic classification will always play a central role in the next generation of virtual network nodes and functions. In the new virtualized network, application identification provides operators with new, more personalized and more secure for their customers. Service is very important. In order to make up for the inadequacies of the company's products and technologies and to better serve its customers, in October 2016, Enea acquired Qosmos, a French network intelligence software specialist, to continuously enhance its next-generation network processing capabilities. This highly complementary acquisition has greatly expanded Enea's product portfolio, opened up new market segments, and accelerated Enea's all-around positive development. Since then, Enea has been even more powerful in software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV).

With the help of physical probes deployed in the network, we can monitor data flow, conduct deep business analysis, and improve service quality. The introduction of NFV complicates the problem. Many data exchanges between virtual machines are implemented through vSwitches. This part of traffic becomes invisible to traditional network probes. Enea's vProbe is a software network probe that can be deployed in both NFVI and VMs to monitor data flow in virtual environments. In addition, the deployment of vProbe is also very flexible and can be enabled on demand without affecting the normal operation of the business.

Business Function Chain (SFC) is an important concept in NFV. Combining Qosmos's service identification function, dynamic SFCs based on different applications can be implemented to further improve system flexibility and improve user experience.

Low profile and strength

Just as many Nordic people do not like the character of publicity, Enea is also a company from Sweden. However, being unpopular does not mean that there is no strength. Every day, 3 billion people worldwide rely on Enea's technology in numerous applications at many levels, including telecommunications, automotive, medical, and avionics.

Enea's product advantages mainly include three points. First, the product integrates open source features; second, software and hardware optimization; and third, product features increase. Enea is committed to being a major contributor to the open source community, working with customers and leading hardware vendors to develop and enhance the best software solutions. Enea has accumulated technology for 50 years and ranked fifth in the contribution of OPNFV community. Products and technologies can be used across platforms. Long-term and rich experience in cooperation with large companies such as Ericsson and Nokia, these products are It is well represented. Enea is an independent software vendor that supports a variety of hardware platform architectures, from CPU to DSP to heterogeneous processors, providing seamless cross-platform solutions. Enea's products and technologies operate independently and can work with different partners to support X86 and ARM processors, giving customers more choices. In addition, Enea has been cultivating the telecommunications industry for many years and has a good reputation for embedded software, which has greatly increased the delay and throughput of end products.

In the Asia-Pacific region, Enea has offices in Shanghai, Japan, and Singapore in order to provide better and faster services to its users here. China is a very important market. Enea’s office in China was established in 2005 and currently has customers such as Huawei, ZTE, Datang, Putian, and Hainengda. The main challenge that Enea faces in China is that China's demand for business customization is very high. Enea needs to respond faster and allow its products to mature faster to meet the needs of Chinese users. In addition, Enea hopes to do better in the Chinese market, and establish better cooperation with equipment vendors, operators, power, military and other fields. In short, Enea is willing to grow together with partners to become the industry's best supplier.

Macbook Charger

The 60W Macbook Charger with MagSafe1 or Magsafe 2 Power Adapter has a magnetic DC connector, so if someone trips on it, the power cord disconnects harmlessly, keeping your MacBook Air safe. It also helps prevent the cable from fraying or weakening over time. Additionally, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and safe connection.
