Recently, foreign scientists have developed a new type of smart car light system that can help drivers see the road ahead in a rainstorm or blizzard environment, even at night. Drive safely on the road.
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States have developed this system to improve visibility in harsh environments by constantly reflecting light from precipitation examples.
This system prevents distracting and dangerous glare problems caused by the first rays being reflected back into the driver's line of sight. "If you drive in a heavy rain, then this system will make you look like it is drizzling," said Srinivasa Narasimhan, associate professor of robotics.
The system uses a camera to track the movement of raindrops and snowflakes, and then applies computer algorithms to predict the position of these particles after a few milliseconds.
The projection system of the light then begins to adjust so that the beams are not activated immediately, and then the beams automatically illuminate the particles at the predicted position of the system.
Narasimhan said: "The human eye can't see these detailed processes, and since the precipitation particles are not illuminated, it seems that you can't see the rain and the snowflakes."
For the driver, the rain now becomes a slender stripe and the gap between them is large. For high-speed cameras, rainwater is actually composed of sparsely discrete droplets.
This leaves a lot of space, and if the system responds quickly, the light can be distributed more efficiently. According to laboratory tests, this intelligent lighting system can detect raindrops, predict its motion, and quickly adjust the illumination angle within 13 milliseconds. At lower speeds, such systems can eliminate 70% to 80% of the heavy rain and snow, while losing only 5% to 6% of the brightness.
In order to drive on the highway, it can work effectively in rainy and snowy days, and the reaction time of the system will be further reduced to a few milliseconds. The experiment proved the feasibility of the system, and the researchers were full of confidence in the response speed of the system.
For example, the test equipment uses an off-the-shelf DLP projector to shoot the camera. A valuable system uses the LED matrix to determine the location of the raindrops and then turns a single lighting unit on or off.
This new LED technology combines LED light sources with image sensors on a single chip for high speed operation at a lower cost.
Although this smart light system does not completely eliminate rain and snow in the driver's line of sight, it can greatly reduce the reflection and distortion caused by water, which can significantly improve visibility and reduce the distraction of the driver's attention.
Another advantage of this system is that it can detect the opposite car in the first time, and automatically remove the light from the other's line of sight to prevent the light from directly shining on the other's face to ensure each other's safety.
