Energy-saving lamps save electricity and the government should make a difference

For consumers, whether to save money is an important factor in determining their choice of different goods. Energy-saving lamps save electricity but do not save money, which inevitably leads consumers to think about loving energy-saving lamps but it is not easy. To change this dilemma, the author believes that the government should make a difference. First of all, the government should give policy incentives and subsidies to the production of energy-saving lamps to reduce the market price of energy-saving lamps and let the people benefit. Second, the government should support breakthroughs in energy-saving lighting technology. Furthermore, in the long-term position, the government needs to impose certain restrictions on incandescent lamps.

The China Consumers Association recently released a report saying that China’s sales of energy-saving lighting has a low maintenance rate and a short life span, presenting the status quo of “saving electricity and not saving money”.

According to surveys, 20% of the world's electricity is consumed in lighting, and 40% of it is consumed by incandescent bulbs. If energy-saving lamps are used globally to replace incandescent lamps, then carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions can be reduced by 700 million tons per year.

On the surface, the government will have a large expenditure; but overall, due to the promotion of energy-saving lamps, one can appropriately alleviate the current energy pressure, and the second can reduce the pressure brought by environmental protection, thereby saving a large governance environment. Pollution funds can be described as one-shot.

Second, the government should support breakthroughs in energy-saving lighting technology. At present, some energy-saving lamp products on the market do not save money for consumers, which is largely due to technical backwardness. However, some basic research is beyond the reach of ordinary enterprises. The government should give policy inclination and support in the research and development of the corresponding technologies for energy-saving lamp production. Moreover, within the scope of the provisions of the Intellectual Property Law, the sharing and mutual benefit of the corresponding patent technologies between enterprises shall be promoted to serve the society.

Furthermore, in the long-term position, the government needs to impose certain restrictions on incandescent lamps. According to foreign reports, Australia is the first country to plan to ban the use of incandescent lamps. It is planned to gradually ban the use of traditional incandescent lamps and promote energy-saving lamps at the latest in 2010. We also need to have a clear timetable to limit the use of incandescent lamps.
